Busy Bee

This is what I do when the dog wakes up at 5:30am. Stay tuned, I'll be listing these and others on Etsy this week. Aside from the dog's inability to understand that weekends are for sleeping in until at least 7am, we had a great two days out in WH. It finally felt like Summer. We did some yardwork, sat on the beach for a few hours on Saturday, celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday, and went for long runs in preparation for the NYC Half Marathon (August 16 is looming!). Vella had a blast playing with Ursa (neighbor's black lab) and we coaxed her on to the second step of the pool. She'll be swimming by the end of July! Looking forward to a short week here and more time out at the beach for the 4th.

What's Cooking?

Before I say anything else, I have to point out how gross the weather is tonight. It's rainy and chilly. Summer, where are you? Guess there's no walk on the beach and ice cream after dinner. Vella will be disappointed.

Chicken is marinating for fajitas. My AMAZING neighbor, Laura, and I went to the Farmers Market this morning and picked up some goodies too.

Matt and I will no doubt be arguing the merits of Oatmeal vs. Chestnut PB Peyton Grommet Drapery. Bye-bye vertical blinds. My vote is for the Oatmeal. In typical Matt fashion though, he has proclaimed that both are boring. Not quite sure what he was hoping for...fuchsia?!? So, it's Oatmeal vs. Chestnut.

Coming to you from VA!

I'm sitting on my parents back porch right now and it's nice to have a project-free Saturday. The guys are finishing up the first day of a member-guest tournament. Mom and I hit downtown Leesburg, which has come a long way since the days that I lived here in Loudoun County. My favorite shops were Savannah's and the Persnickety Palm. I have to say that I didn't do much for the economy today. I picked up some old milk glass dishes for our guest rooms (guests can use them for jewelry or change when they stay over), a pair of linen Bermuda shorts marked down to $28, but nothing else did anything for me at the price tags I kept seeing.

I did get an idea for our hallway. I'm currently watching a bunch of antique Morris prints on eBay. They'll look great with a taupe linen mat and silver gilt frame.
Not familiar with Morris prints? Here's the rundown:
"These rare prints are actual plates from a book titled A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds by Rev. F.O. Morris, dated 1896. The plates were produced by Benjamin Fawcett of Yorkshire, a notable Victorian printer who developed the process of color printing from wood-blocks."

This is an egg print, but I've found everything from birds, to ferns and shells.

National Running Day

Lace up your sneakers for a run or walk today. I'm in full half marathon training mode, so a 4-mile run is on my schedule this evening (followed by a nice walk with Vella).
