In Summary

I spent every free minute with this little gal (no, her eyes aren't blue, I just don't know how to use the camera)! We worked hard to get her on a schedule this week and she's a superstar. I race out of work to get to the gym and home to Vella each night...and I love it. She's brought so much joy to our lives in one week.

Matt and I had dinner at Daniel last night. The Cohens gave us a gift certificate as a wedding present -- thank you Matt and Katie, and sorry it took us 2 1/2 years to book a reservation! The cocktails and food were delicious, and the service was great. Will we go back again? Not for the price tag, but I'd recommend it if you're looking to go all out for a big special occasion.

Welcome to the Family!

We've been talking about adding to the family for quite a while. We walked in to Bideawee on Valentines Day and met an adorable little Heinz 57...the rest is history. Meet Vella Violet! Our little Southern Belle came to us from Tennessee. She settled in SO quickly. We spent Sunday night out in Westhampton, making a quick stop to meet Marion, Cindy and Mona on Monday afternoon (thank you for the gifts!), and took her first walk in NYC in stride. She even slept through the night (fingers crossed this continues). We have the best dog walker ever, Erica, stopping by twice a day for exercise, play time and love.
We're now in full time potty and leash training. Wish us luck. More Vella updates to come.

Conversation with My Favorite Three-Year Old

My parents are visiting Amy, Paul, James and Genevieve in the OC this week. I called last night to say "hi" to the family and I had one of those conversations with James that just melts your heart. It always begins with him saying "I want to talk to Auntie Molly!" in the background and someone handing over the phone. Well, he had so much to talk about last night and kept me laughing the entire time! Topics covered:

- School (music and painting)
- His easel
- Valentines
- Blue belly buttons (see above, a result of the love for painting!)
- Sprinkles on cupcakes
- We need to buy binoculars for my March visit
- Making Genevieve laugh

Miss you guys! Give J&G hugs and kisses.

25 Things I Didn't Want to Know About You

I reluctantly joined Facebook around this time last year. It's fun to connect with people from the past, and I look forward to seeing pictures of friends' families. However, it's a bit of an annoying technology and I can't believe the number of people who use it as their primary means of communication with friends and family. It baffles me -- pick up the phone and call your Mom, don't post on her Wall! I refuse to participate in the "25 Things" posting that spread like wildfire this week. I'm not that interesting and I'm not that funny. So, you can imagine the good laugh I got out of this Time article today.

Catalogs, Catalogs and MORE Catalogs

I came home last night around 9:30 (following a yummy dinner with Adrienne) to a mailbox FULL of catalogs. Newsflash from the Department of the Obvious -- we're in a recession and I'm strictly prohibited from shopping. That didn't stop me from looking. Eastbay, Victoria's Secret, Crate and Barrel, Frontgate, and JCrew all went in the recycling bin the trash room (sorry Retailers!). I did let Lands End and Lands End Home through the front door. Very cute, very affordable. Check out the "Fit 1 Modern" pieces.

This week seems to be dragging on and on. I'm looking forward to the weekend. We'll head out to the house on Friday night. We have dinner guests coming over on Saturday night, so I'm busy planning the menu and trying to get a Fresh Direct order in for Friday delivery. It should be 50 on Sunday, so I think a walk/run around Town is in order and maybe we can even squeeze in a walk on the beach! It's hard to believe that we were deep in our home search this time last year.

Snow, Snow Go Away!

It was perfectly nice out this morning during my commute, but the weather went downhill quickly. It's snowing, sleeting, and just generally cold and gross outside. It's afternooons like these that make me want to close my eyes, click my heels and magically find myself here:

And yes, it really looks like this!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

I see a promo every time I turn on the TV. Will you see it? I'm going to pass. I think it should be set in London and from what I've read, the team took quite a bit of creative license with other pieces of the storyline.

We saw Defiance last night. Aside from listening to the idiots sitting next to us (they talked through the entire movie), I enjoyed the movie. It's a very moving story. You can read more about the Bielski brothers here.
